In Honor Of Late Chadwick Boseman, Howard University And Netflix Join Forces To Create A $5.4 Million Scholarship


Netflix and Howard University established a $5.4 Million Scholarship in Honor of the late actor Chadwick Boseman. The late actor, director, writer, and producer graduated from Howard University. As an alumnus, he was unequivocal about his love for HBCU, to the point that he served as the University’s 2018 commencement speaker.

After Chadwick’s untimely d***h, the University wasted no time renaming their Fine Arts Center the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts to honor his legacy. In addition to naming the Fine Arts Center after the d**eas!d actor, the school now offers a $5.4million Chadwick A. Boseman Memorial Scholarship to deserving applicants.

The Scholarship will essentially be awarded to students in the dramatic arts department. Netflix introduced the donation of the Scholarship by awarding this year’s recipients: freshman Sarah Long (musical theatre), sophomore Shawn Smith (acting), junior Janee’ Ferguson (theatre arts administration), and senior Deirdre Dunkin (dance).

In a statement, Howard University President Wayne A.I. Frederick explained the importance of the Scholarship and expressed his gratitude. He stated that the Scholarship embodies Chadwick Boseman’s love for the University and the decision he made to support Howard University students in the future continually. Furthermore, the President extended his gratitude to the late actor’s wife, Mrs. Simone Ledward-Boseman, for her constant support and partnership.

He also thanked Netflix for gifting the University with the Scholarship. Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s co-CEO and chief content officer, gave a touching comment regarding how Chadwick Boseman had majorly positive things to say about his time at Howard University. According to him, the University shaped the life and career of the late actor. Hence, they deemed it fitting to grant many students the opportunity to live their dreams and hopefully become the next superheroes in the future.
