Woman In Pub Fined £1,000 For Ign-oring Officials Who Told Her To Self Isolate

A woman has been fi-ned £1,000 ($1,200) for going to the pub just minutes after being told to self-isolate.

The unnamed woman hopped into a taxi and raced to a nearby bar in Barrow, Cumbria, just 25 minutes after she was told by a local Test and Trace worker she had to stay home.

Unfortunately for the culprit, however, the contact tracing system was able to prove she had committed the off-ense and she was then dealt with by officers.

Speaking about the case, Superintendent Carl Patrick, of Cumbria Police, urged people to take responsibility for their own actions and follow orders to stay home and isolate if asked to.

He said: “This was a bl-atant br-each and put all those this woman came into contact with at unnecessary ri-sk.”The Covid-19 continues to spread rapidly across our county.”It is up to everybody to show personal responsibility and to be careful to follow the guidelines and rules in place to keep everyone safe.

“The vast majority of people in Cumbria have stuck to the rules and made many personal sacrifices over the past few months to keep themselves, their families, and our communities safe.”We must all continue to stick to the guidelines and regulations and all do our bit to protect ourselves, our families, and our communities.”Councillor Ann Thomson, the leader of Barrow Borough Council, echoed these sentiments and said it was vital that the v-irus was stopped.

She said: “It saddens me deeply that someone would di-sregard an instruction to self-isolate from a member of our Track and Trace team.”This selfish action could knowingly place other people at risk.”Cases of Covid-19 are spreading rapidly across our area. Please take this situation extremely seriously and stay at home if you are told to self-isolate.”Ignoring this instruction will not only land you with a fi-ne, but it could also put those you come into contact with and others in grave da-nger.”

This comes as the UK government looks set to announce that pubs, ba-rs, and restaurants in the North of England will be fo-rced to close on Monday (12 October). Under the new measures, on which Prime Minister Boris Johnson has reportedly signed off, overnight stays at other people’s homes will also be banned. It is a reaction to the fact that the number of Covid cases has started to rise across the country, with 17,540 new cases reported on Thursday (8 October) and 77 people tr-agically losing their lives.

Last week, documents were le-aked which outlined a series of alert levels of varying severity, with level three being the highest. Alert level three contains the strictest set of measures – which are also tougher than any we’ve seen in any localized lockdowns.
